In Love With AO3 - Stories Being Uploaded
23rd-Nov-2012 09:48 am
Half Dean
I've had my A03 account for a while, but recently took the time to upload some stories there. There's nothing new, but it's nice to have most of them all in one place, and intensely readable! Recently posted are:

Blue May (Jack/Ramius; Hunt For the Red October)
Flavor of Gold (K/S)
One Night's Compromise (K/S)
Lilacs in Bloom (Willie/Vicki; Dark Shadows 1966)
Stopping By Woods (Willie/Vicki; Dark Shadows 1966)
Safe From Harm (Weechester; SPN)
Out of Harm's Way (Weechester; SPN)
In Harm's Wake (Weechester; SPN)
Sky Blue and Black (S/H; Starsky and Hutch)
Hour of Separation (S/H; Starsky and Hutch)
Velveteen Hutch (S/H; Starsky and Hutch)
Corduroy Starsky (S/H; Starsky and Hutch)
Frog and Toad Are Friends (S/H; Starsky and Hutch)

I plan to put more Dark Shadows up there, at some point. : D

Yay you! I, too, truly love AO3.

The greatest thing about it right now (for me) is that its bookmarks function can basically help me find ALL the goodfic EVERYWHERE, just by following a good writer's bookmarks. In Avengers fandom, that means I don't even have *time* to find and real all the goodfic that's out there. I'm not sure, but I think Avengers is a bigger fandom than XFiles in its heyday. (Not as big as HP, but then, nothing is that big.) It's like a huge crazy fic party.

Yeah, AO3!

Bookmark functions? Sometimes I feel like I will never catch up with technology! I just learned how to sign in....

But yes, a fic party sounds terrific. So you bookmark a good writer's bookmarks? Or just bookmark that writer, and get notified when she updates her bookmarks?

I CAN bookmark Anybody's list of bookmarks -- but not on AO3, per se. I do that using my own computer's bookmarking option. So if they have read a lot of things that look really good, I often do that. :D

To read other people's bookmarks, say that I go to the AO3 page of blackeyedgirl. http://archiveofourown.org/users/BlackEyedGirl/pseuds/BlackEyedGirl

When I look at the left hand column, I see that she only has seven bookmarks. Given that she's one of the most popular writers in Avengers fandom (which given the competition, means a lot), I assume these will be Very Good Stories. In fact, now that I click on "Bookmarks" and look at hers, I have realized where I must have found the Avengers vid set to that Killers song. :)

I am bummed to notice that she doesn't even bother to bookmark any Avengers fic, who knows, maybe she spends ALL her time writing and doesn't read much, or something, so I don't want them. And I don't think there's any AO3-centered way to bkmk a list of items, unless it's stories in a specific series. In which case I can bookmark, say . . .
http://archiveofourown.org/series/8104. The bookmark button for that is on the top right hand side when you open up the series list.

YOU WILL NOT SEE ANY BOOKMARK BUTTONS UNLESS YOU'RE SIGNED IN. My computer has stopped keeping me signed in, and I was going bananas. I couldn't figure out where the bookmark buttons went.

I only started keeping bookmarks on AO3 lately when I realized I had hundreds of stories bookmarked on my computer, with no description or way to know what the hell they were. So a metric ton of useless bookmarks. At least this way I can find a story I liked by skimming the description.

This is incredibly helpful. I was thinking that you're right, it makes sense to bookmark AO3 things on AO3 and then everything else using another bookmark system. I signed up for pinboard, but haven't used it much. Yet. : D
